Al Khatim Camp, the heart of the Abu Dhabi safari route, with shaded majlis seating, a live grill station, clean toilets with running water and a women's area, and no permanent structures: this is a seasonal camp on permitted land, which is why it looks simple and feels better for it.
Dinner
A buffet, not a set plate, and unlimited. Chicken tikka and mixed grill off the charcoal, lamb ouzi or machboos, rice, three salads, hummus, falafel, grilled vegetables, fruit, and Umm Ali for dessert. Vegetarian and vegan plates are cooked to order rather than a sad corner of the table. Flag it when you book so the kitchen has the right quantities.
Drinks
Water, soft drinks, Arabic coffee and mint tea included throughout. Juice and bottled water for sale at the bar. Alcohol is not served at the camp. If that matters to you, say so before booking, because it changes how we plan your evening.
Entertainment
Tanoura first, a spun-skirt folk dance that is genuinely good and works without any volume. Then the fire show. Then belly dance, which is the item couples tend to like and parents of small children tend to want switched off. During Ramadan the dance is suspended by UAE practice and camps keep the tone quieter. Abu Dhabi drew a record 26.6 million visitors in 2025 (DCT Abu Dhabi), and a large share of them skip straight past the queue you would expect at a Dubai camp.
Photo stuff
Kandura and abaya to wear, a falcon on a handler's glove, a horse or camel for the pose. No charge for any of it. We've made that a rule, because the upsell at another camp is the single most common complaint we hear about this activity.
At night, after the last show
The lights drop, the traffic noise doesn't exist, and the sky is worth more than anything on the programme. Abu Dhabi's desert on a moonless night is a real dark-sky environment, if you have a camera with a manual mode and a tripod or a wall to rest it on, use it.
